BMW Electric Vehicles to be Unveiled in 2023

government incentives for electric cars

BMW has made a rapid transition to fully electric cars. Since launching its i3 model in 2013, BMW has expanded its range to include the i8, iX3 & i5. By 2023, it expects to have 25 electric cars on sale, with half of those using a fully electric powertrain. The company has also been very active in the plug-in hybrid sector.

The i8 is a striking sports car with a mid engine design and a powerful plug–in hybrid powertrain. The car didn’t go as well, however. Instead of selling in high numbers the i8 began to depreciate heavily, much like other high-end BMWs.

The new X1 will be a big departure from the original model. It will feature a brand new interior and a more aggressive look. It will also have a new plug-in hybrid version. It is expected it to reach 250 miles. It can be equipped with either an automatic or manual gearbox, depending on its powertrain. Its price is expected to start around PS150,000.

The new M2 will also feature an electric IX1. Its engine will be a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol. This will give the M2 a maximum output of 470hp. The M2 will be available with a four-wheel drive option. However, it is likely that it will also be available with a conventional manual or an automatic gearbox.

Alpine also teased a four-door, electric coupe. Its styling cues likely come from Porsche, its sister-brand. A new model from the Italian firm is tipped to be unveiled in early 2023.

Polestar also revealed its third vehicle. This small SUV is aimed at the Audi e-tron or Volkswagen ID. It isn't yet clear if the Polestar will come as a pure-electric vehicle or as a hybrid. According to reports, it has a 300-mile battery life. According to some reports, its design will be square and tapered at rear. It will not be series produced. Instead, it'll be a prototype.

Fiat also announced plans to launch an all electric compact car. The GV60 will go on sale in the United States in 2022, and its range will be 280 miles. It will not make its debut on the European markets until 2023. It will not be available for sale in the UK until January 2022.

Ora is a Chinese company and the first EV from it is set to go on sale later this year. It will feature a 231hp electric engine, funky styling and 18-inch alloy wheels. A reversing camera is also included. After the plugin grant from government, its cost will be PS30.495

Another Chinese brand is MG. It is preparing for its all-electric launch. It will use the same platform as the future small Volvo. It is expected that it will arrive in the late 2022-early 2023. It will also come with rear-wheel drives. It is expected that it will have a battery capacity between 51kWh and 64kWh, giving it an estimated range of 217-280 miles.

FAQ

How long is an automotive course?

An automotive course lasts 3 years.

The first year is dedicated to theory and learning about cars. The second year is spent on practical training where you learn how to drive, fix engines, and do other mechanical jobs around the car. You will spend the final year working in a local garage to gain real-world experience.

What are the basics of car mechanics?

To be an auto mechanic, you don't have to know much about cars. It's enough to know how to fix things. Most people begin by changing brake pads and tires, before moving on to more complicated repairs.

You need to be able read and comprehend diagrams, follow written instructions and adhere to basic principles of good practice. You must also be able judge if parts need to replaced or repaired.

It is important to understand that vehicle repairs should only be attempted by those who have received the proper training. This is especially true if you deal with expensive components such as engines or transmissions.

In fact, even though you won't need to know much about cars, you will need to thoroughly know the basics of mechanical engineering and physics. This is how you understand the mechanisms behind engines and brakes.

Noting that all situations are possible, it is important to be prepared. You might be required to work on a vehicle that was involved in an accident. Also, you'll need to be familiar with dealing with accidents or breakdowns.

Finally, you must be willing to learn new skills quickly. You will need to be able not only to diagnose problems but also to perform simple maintenance tasks like tightening bolts and nuts.

What are the different types of jobs available in car mechanic?

Car mechanics can find work in three areas:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

This is the place most people begin to consider becoming mechanics. This is the best way to get started. You can either work at a shop owned by someone else or set up your own business.

If you decide to work at a shop, you'll need to apply to join a union. After you are accepted to the union, you will receive training from it.

Once the training is completed, you can start working.

If you decide to open your own garage, you'll need to register with the government. After you have registered, you will need to meet certain standards.

After you have registered, you will be issued a license to operate your garage.

Your license will allow you to sell spare parts and do minor repairs. You can't fix major engine problems with your license.

Apart from selling spare parts, customers will also expect you to provide guidance and advice.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships employ mechanics that specialize in one aspect of the vehicle. For example, they might only deal with brakes or only replace tires.

Some dealerships have the option to hire general mechanics who can take care of all aspects.

These positions often require applicants that they undergo special training before being allowed work. This allows employers to pick the right candidates for their jobs.

Some dealerships will even hire graduates right out of university. These graduates are familiar with the fundamentals of mechanical engineering so they can easily learn about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages don’t have to be associated with any particular dealer. They tend to be focused on high-quality service.

Because independent garages aren't affiliated with any company, they can afford to pay higher wages. These jobs generally pay better than those at dealerships.

Independent garages can be just as good places to work, but this does not mean they are better. Many business owners prefer to manage their own businesses rather than delegating responsibility to others.

You might find yourself working long hours but having no control over what happens in the day.

Additionally, you should expect to earn lower wages if employed by a dealership.

The good news is that you can easily switch between different kinds of jobs. It is possible to switch between different types of jobs if your current employer would prefer you to work at a dealer.

Alternativly, you can apply directly to the garage owner if you are interested in working at an independent garage.

It's not always easy to find a job. Many other factors can also influence the amount you earn.

Consider, for example, what type of vehicle you are repairing and whether additional labor charges will apply.

Statistics

  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the job outlook for automotive service technicians and mechanics is expected to decline by 4% from 2019 to 2029. (indeed.com)
  • Apprentice mechanics earn significantly less hourly than mechanics who have completed training, with a median wage of approximately $14.50 an hour, according to PayScale. (jobhero.com)
  • According to the BLS, total auto technician employment is expected to exceed 705,000 by 2030. (uti.edu)
